    Description

Incredible rare steel helmet of the Soviet Army of the USSR during the Second World War with a number, without restoration: the riveted strap is clearly visible, which indicates that this is an early type, the original blanket, SIZE 1
Unique helmet in excellent condition !!!
Helmets correspond to the size of the head in girth: 1st size - up to 55 cm; 2nd size - from 56 to 59 cm; 3rd size - 60 cm
In the period 1936-37, many experimental helmets were created in the USSR. These developments were based on the helmets of foreign armies. In 1938, the final decision was made on which helmet is suitable for the Red Army.
For the production of helmets in the USSR, alloyed armor steel was used. The Soviet model was named SSh-39 and was a product weighing 1.25 kg. The walls were 1.9 mm thick. The helmet was tested personally by the Soviet commander S.M. Budyonny and gave a good result.
The liner was made of a domed fabric, leatherette or waxed fabric. Under the fabric there is a felt or fabric padding. The liner was adjusted using a cord at the top of the dome. The fabric was attached to a steel hoop, which in turn was attached to the helmet with three rivets.
SSh-40 - this is the official name of the improved helmet. Unlike the SSh-39, the helmet was made of alloyed armored steel of the 36SGN brand with a thickness of 1.2 mm. The sturdy and reliable helmet of the Soviet soldier withstood the hit of an automatic bullet from a distance of 150 meters. But even in the case when the bullet pierced the helmet, the probability of fatal injury was reduced significantly. The energy of the bullet was simply not enough to fully incapacitate the fighter.
