Description
Hard-to-find souvenir of "Newburgh, N.Y." skull/skeleton match holder with a nodding/rocking lower jaw. The three sides of the book with pages serve as match strikers. The hole in the top of the head is for storing unused matches. Some may describe this as a candle holder but I totally disagree. It is not signed. It was most likely made in Japan or possibly Germany.
It is incredibly well balanced. I timed the jaw after giving it a light push. It was still slightly moving after 5 minutes.
It is about 2 1/4" long x 3 1/4" wide x 3 1/4" high.
I've decided the best way to ship it is to tape the lower jaw (in the open position) to the book. Some patina may come off when the tape is removed. This should not be concerning.
It is in excellent condition. There is no damage. The balancing mechanism is in perfect working order. The strikers are clean but I can't rule out light use in the past. There is light patina commensurate with age. This piece is extremely rare and displays exceptionally well.
My pictures don't always project the ideal image. I have serious problems with glare and lighting. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, especially photo related ones.
Regarding combined shipping. In most cases, several pieces can be shipped in a single box. When this occurs, I will credit the purchaser's PayPal account any shipping difference. In-other-words, I charge exact shipping for same time multiple purchases. I cannot issue these credits until I've purchased the postage so it may take a day or two. I do this often. I have never had a discrepancy complaint. My customers are in very good hands.
