    Notable Features:
This brooch was handmade in the style of the Art Deco era. Composed of 9k yellow gold, the pendant features many beautiful sapphire and seed pearl stones adorning a starburst motif. The design of this piece is a
classic homage to the styles of jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw socialites and aristocrats donning bold, attention-grabbing jewelry to wear to Gatsby style parties and other formal evening events. Vibrant, large stones, like those in this piece, were all the rage and were a sure way to make a splash with other party-goers.
The face of the brooch features a total of nine sapphires, each with a striking
semi-translucent deep blue hue. The stones are semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through their bodies and illuminate their stunning color. With round faceted cuts, the sapphires sparkle brilliantly as light reflects from their faces. These sapphires rest in yellow gold prong settings, the vibrancy of the gold a gorgeous contrast to the deeper blue tones of the sapphire . The largest stone adorns the center of the starburst motif, while the smaller sapphires rest within small star motifs at the end of the starburst's rays. The largest sapphire rests securely in a prong setting which elevates above the rest of the brooch, making it impossible to miss.
Decorating the rays of the star are a total of twenty-four seed pearls. After being hand-harvested, the pearls were polished to show off their lovely white hues and gorgeous luster. The round pearls also rest within prong settings and are arranged in a graduated design on each ray, adding to the grand appearance of the brooch.
Completing the brooch is a pin stem with a locking "c" clasp which allows it to be worn on a variety of accessories, including hats, scarves, and lapels, among many others.
A classic modern tribute to Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era, this brooch would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
    Damage:
    Age appropriate wear.

    The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Sapphires are one of the four precious gemstones and have been prized for their rarity and beauty for centuries. Sapphires are one of the two varieties of corundum, the other being ruby. Sapphires are usually a deep blue in color but can also occur in other “fancy” colors of white, yellow, grey, green, and orange hues. The only color a sapphire cannot be is red. The Ancient Persians believed that the sky was painted blue by the reflection of the sun on sapphire stones, and many rulers and religions have used this stone to denote status and sanctity.
Seed pearls occur naturally and are used most often as a decorative border, as tiny accents in small patterns, or in larger clusters woven together to make up an entire piece of jewelry. They are normally less than 2 mm in diameter. They were imported from India and China and carried a hefty price tag due to this. Seed Pearl jewelry was used often for special occasions such as weddings, Mary Todd Lincoln received a seed pearl parure for Lincoln's inauguration.
