Description
****Here is a very nice, late 1890's silver plated hip flask by Meriden B. Co. This flask has a hammered finish on the front, with a smooth spot on the upper left corner, presumably to engrave the name or initials of the owner of this piece. The cap has a rotate then flip type of opening, with a sturdy hinge that was certainly built to last. The original stopper is present in the cap, looking to cork which has since hardened with age. The base of this flask has the maker's stamp, as well as the number of 1321. Other examples in the early 1300's seem to generally be made in the late 1890's. As with items of this age, there is some minor wear on the front and sides, with a small ding in the side of the cap. The back also shows wear, likely from having rubbed against someone's trousers while they carried this piece, with some lighter spots showing through the vibrant patina. This flask measures roughly 8 1/8 x 4 1/8 inches, and is about 3/4 - 7/8 of an inch thick measured from the base. Overall, an excellent piece..............See Images****
